Where in France, and what type of property, you ask? Well let me tell you…
We are looking for a country house, with lots of space and privacy, in the central west region of – Poitou Charetens. The climate there is pretty much perfect with top temperatures of 28 degrees centigrade in the summer, and lows of 5 degrees centigrade in the winter …
Renting for a while allows us time to have a good look around and see if we do want to live there. If we do decide we want to move to France permanently, and we are pretty sure we do, then we will have had the time to explore and find the perfect property to buy.
Well that’s it ! We have officially moved from our beloved home in southern Spain. After 27 years on the Spanish sun soaked Costa del Sol – we require a more temperate climate! So north we head. And, with the very best of intentions, and more than a tear or two, we have placed our lovely home up for sale.
This is the home we have lived, and loved in for the past 18 years. We now leave her to the next chapter. To new people, who will most assuredly relish in the comfort, and beauty of this home, and her garden. A home perfectly positioned – Under the Spanish Sun ….
So, without further ado, here is a detailed description of Rose View House :
We all have a favourite piece of furniture. A chair we prefer, one that is just that bit more comfortable than the rest. Or an eye catching antique piece of that we are so very proud of. Maybe you have a magnificent chesterfield that you cant live without. A beautifully crafted coffee table. A reading lamp perhaps. What would your favourite pieces be if you were to choose? Would you go for practicality, comfort or jaw dropping beauty? I like my furniture to be practical. And practical can be very beautiful too …
Here is a list of my very favourite pieces of furniture.
Every time I visit a great city, I end up thinking how cool it would be to own a flat there. Edinburgh for instance. These big stone buildings with the spacious rooms. Those with abundant Fireplaces … Wonderfully atmospheric … And all pretty much sound proofed too in their grandeur.
I think a fourth floor apartment. Edinburgh doesn’t rise much higher than that anyway. But high enough so as not to have too much of the street noise … I love open windows …
I recently awoke in Edinburgh to the subtle noise of the city streets which I found strangely comforting.
Are you acquainted with the Crespi-Hicks Estate … if not then follow me for a private tour.
I first found this property online. I kept coming across photos of this magnificent home when searching for things like “Beautiful Estate Gardens.” The photos I would save were of serene garden greens against graceful limestone walls of white, and grounds of impeccable design. These where the photos that always caught my attention. I didn’t even know that the photos I had collected were of the same property, until quite recently when I looked through my “Dream Property” folder of images collectively …
The case for the working from home has never been stronger. As the digital world envelops evey sector of our industries. It is becoming easier, and easier for us to earn our living without leaving our home environment.
Personally, I have worked from my office at home for over a decade now and I Love It ! I wouldn’t have it any other way. I have my business at my finger tips, my pets by my side, and my home in sparkling order !
We are lucky enough to run our own business, Web and App development, specialising in Search Engine Optimisation. So our work is entirely online. And that’s just fine by me !
If you are considering creating an office space, or work environment in your home, here are my top tips for perfect productivity :
We are wintering this year with my father-in-law in England, and he has a lovely garden: Front back and sides ! Now if you have been reading my other posts you will know that The Garden is one of my favourite parts of any abode … and spending time in an English Winter Garden is something I have never done before … So I am Loving It !
Yes its cold, but not as cold as it could be, in fact I believe we are having what is commonly known as a mild Winter. Never the less there are a few things that desperately need attended in an English Garden at this time of year. One of the most important being feeding the garden birds.
Not a bad analogy if you are in the middle of trying to decide on your floor covering. It’s a big decision, and you want to get it right. Personally my favourite will always be stone with underfloor heating throughout. However, a fluffy carpet or rug right beside the bed for those cold mornings, a beautiful wooden flooring in the library or office is always appropriate and just lovely, but always, always tiles in the areas where spillages are an issue … let’s see which of the options may be best for you :
So there was this movie. Brilliant movie – Practical Magic – In this movie there was a house. An oh so Beautiful house. A three-story, white Victorian wooden lighthouse. Framed in a white picket fence, an exquisite and carefully tended herb garden, and most wonderfully – a wraparound porch. This is a house where they have chocolate cake for breakfast, and a room full of potions, and spells. Spells cast from fauna grown in their very their own garden. A Perfect home for a good white witch … come on in and see …
We are so busy buying gifts for everyone else at this time of year it’s so easy to forget ourselves. Here are my 5 essentials for this festive season. Along with a secret family recipe that will defiantly make your holiday merry and bright …
I am someone who just loves to travel. I sometimes have to leave my home, my adored pets, and my precious plants for up to 10 days. Usually just 3 – 5 days though, and not really that often. But being that it’s “That time of year” most of us will be travelling to someone, or somewhere for the season to be jolly ! And as we have so much else to think about with the gift giving, food eating and merriment drinking, its very easy to forget the essential steps you could take that will keep your own home safe and secure while you are visiting family and friends …
Here is a vital list of things I do to keep my beloved pets, home and Plants safe, and happy while I am away.
Don’t you want to maximize on the fragrances from your garden flowers. Well it’s actually very easy to have your home filled with fresh flower scents. Just grow scented plants beside your doors and windows. But which ones I hear you ask … Well let me introduce you to the world of scented climbers. Plants that are more than willing to carry their fragrance through your home whenever they are in flower:
There are a 2 important points to consider:
And where your doors and windows face (ie. How much sun or shade they get)
Making sure you adhere to the above two necessary conditions of the plant, will ensure it grows happily where you plant it. (Click here for help with that)
Dogs, kids, and let’s face it, we too add scent to our homes in more ways than we probably care to account for !
The tricky thing is, we are so use to the smell of our own home we don’t notice it At All ! Even if you keep the house as clean as possible it still has a scent. Its own fragrant identity. Don’t you want it to be a pleasant one? I sure do !!!
Admittedly we have only started using in regularly in the past couple of years. But I have to tell you, personally I find it so much better than going to a fitness centre of any sort … (although I think I like the sound of soul cycle, I stress the words – I think !)
So what do we actually do ?
Well. we get up between 6 -7am. Have coffee etc, check emails (our office is at home too.) Then go out and do a 20 min fast walk or march out around our local park. When we get back its straight into the gym and do 20 mins of yoga, and then the all-important meditation. In the afternoon around 5:30 we are back in the gym. I do 20 mins of Spinning & my man does 20 mins on his big manly multi gym !
A Bedroom balcony is one of the most romantic and relaxing architectural features a home can have. I am fortunate to have one in our home here in Spain. I can honestly tell you that it is my very favorite room! If I can call it a room …
My balcony is accessible through a 3 panel French door (that I designed myself). Which is dressed in double shear cream curtains. These complement the baby blue walls of my bedroom just perfectly.
The Balcony homes a breakfast table set for 2. Just a small round table and 2 matching chairs. There is a large cherub garden ornament who sits of the floor and continually has his nose in a book. And there are also my fragrant garden friends.
The bedroom is The most intimate room of the house. Its where we rest, dress, and much of our love is made. For these reasons, it is the room which most portrays our true self. whether we know so or not.
How do you keep your bedroom? How do you dress your bed? What do you most treasure in this room? This all tells a story of our most inner self …
But you can work that all out for yourself. I am about to write about my dream bedroom …. Oh – photo at the top is from here
This might not be something the average home owner thinks about. Too busy with work, kids and other stuff to really think about the exterior aesthetics of the matching house & garden …
But it is something to be considered. Especially if you are looking to keep the value up on your home. A well thought out garden can make your house look bigger, smaller, more elegant or even create a confused looking home …
Gardens should be adherent with the architectural style of the house. If you have an old traditional cottage type home, then a romantic blousy garden will be more complimentary. Sure, you can include a bit of topiary, or formal planting here and there but on the whole a cottage garden style will be more appropriate.
If you live in a house of more modern architectural style, then a modern garden design will suit.
Who doesn’t like a bath that stands to attention? The clawfoot bath has to be the most romantic pieces of furniture that a bathroom can home. I always feel they should take centre stage. The bathroom should be built around their divine needs. I feel they lovingly and ever patiently await your bathing body. They await to caress you as would a well-schooled lover.
And as far as I can find there are 4 different varieties.
What a wonderful part of the home. A kitchen doesn’t just provide a place to prepare food, its where we are nourished, where we congregate, quite often it’s the busiest part of the house.
I love a spacious light kitchen that is well orientated for ease of use. Gas hob is essential. I find it much more controllable than electricity. (What was that old UK add – “Cookability, That’s the beauty of Gas”) Anyway I much prefer cooking on a gas stove or hob. And a Big oven, or two !
A tiled floor, stone, or something that is equality easy to clean!
And of course, an island … a Kitchen Island, such a revolution in the architecture of kitchens. It’s a Fabulous work station, and added storage. Best kept clear though. I find decorative clutter on an island to just get in the way. A single fruit bowl, or vase of scented flowers … MMmmm
I don’t know whether it’s due to my love of the garden, but I do Adore conservatories …
It’s a place when you almost invite the garden inside, beautiful large windows and doors opening into a sea of green and sweet garden breeze.
However, … depending where in the world you live, will depend on what materials your conservators is constructed of. In southern Spain for example, you can’t have a glass ceiling on a conservatory. The sun would just cook everything inside … These types of climates beg for deep terraces which cleverly control the sun. Allowing as much light in as possible but reflecting the baking heat away from your precious interior space.
